An Irresistible Force vs. An Immovable Object
Steve Rosner

Have you ever thought what happens when an Irresistible Force and Immovable Object collide?

STOP!     Take a Few Moments to Think About This. USE YOUR NOODLE

Guess what? That is a logical impossibility! No universe can include both!

But isn't God both? For is there anyone or anything that can resist HIM?

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: "Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone?
   Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth and issued from the womb;
When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; When I fixed My limit for it, and set bars and doors; When I said, 'This far you may come, but no further; here your proud waves must stop!'" (JOB 38: 1-11)

On the other hand, is there anything that can move HIM?

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40: 38-39)

"Aha," you say. "God is in a separate universe from us."

But wait.....Is that really the case? After all, doesn't Scripture tells us clearly that God is here, in OUR universe the one He created for us.

"True," you say. "So our logic must be deficient."

But then you think: that doesn't seem right either; as logic comes from God, so our ability to reason must be perfect!

"I'm stuck," you say.

No problem. If you think about for a little while, it is really quite simple.

God transcends logic and can accomplish what to us seems the impossible!

Now I ask you....Is there anyone or anything else in our universe who has that power; i.e. who is both an irresistible force and immovable object?

NOT A CHANCE!

That being the case, I, for one, would want to hitch up my pants to HIS star. Wouldn't you?

I mean, let's face it. To rise up the metaphorical corporate ladder, whatever our ambitions may be requires a "rabbi" of some sort; one who watches over us, mentors us, encourages us; goes to bat for us.

And can there be any greater rabbi then God, WHO is both an irresistible force and immovable object?

But if we want HIS help, we need to show we are worthy of it; that we are of such character to deserve it.

"But," you say, "how does one figure that out?"

Ah! That is easy. It is in the Five Books of Moses or Torah as known by those of the Jewish faith. There, HIS teachings and guidelines of ethical and compassionate behavior are usually pretty clear.

But even when they are not, if you are sincere and make a reasonable effort to understand what God desires from you, He will help you figure it out.

THAT I AM ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED OF!

He will inform you in a myriad of ways, sometimes directly, sometimes guiding you to a rabbi or pastor; doctor or lawyer; butcher or plumber (the person doesn't have to be a Phd.), who will show you, whether directly, or through associations that will have special meaning to you, the way.

So let God guide you!     But under no circumstances let another human being DICTATE what you should do. After all, what makes you think he/she has any more wisdom than you? (Keep in mind, neither knowledge nor brilliance equates to wisdom. Indeed, I assert they're negatively correlated.)

Do not put your trust in princes, in mere men in whom there is no help. When he is gone, he returns to his earth; (Psalms 146: 3-4)

Now how do you know when someone is dictating to you?

Every question should be so easy!

It is a NO-BRAINER!

If what someone tells you does not feel good or right--goes against your intuition or conscience Do NOT listen! That is a human dictating. God, on the other hand, guides and teaches.

By the by: Clearly there will be times when things are muddled; when you are at sea; when you are not sure whether to go right or left; whether to follow Route A or Route B. Don't be afraid to pray! Nor even consider you are unworthy! Ask God for guidance, directly, in whatever language you are most comfortable with!

God is infinitely gracious! He will not let you down!

And He said, "Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which you are shall see the work of the LORD—for it is awesome—that I will do with you."

(Exodus 34: 10)
